Reported/Distorted
This dye-cut design for a catalogue is based on research from an academic essay about the 'Atelier Populaire' Protests in turbulent Paris, during the civil rights unrest of 1968. The prototype was handmade.
Inspired by the Atelier Populaire Protests in Paris of1968, contrasting with the Paris Yellow Jacket Protests in 2019, and critically exploring how the media represented both, the catalogue uses the features of censorship as overlay to showcase how the newspaper headlines reported on both protests, often presenting facts in particular ways. Exploration and play with the symbols of protest also feature, particularly focusing on the clenched fist, and hands. Atelier Populaire used quick print techniques to disseminate their messages, and poster design as ephemera. Ways of telling the story, and the power to tell the story become the story too.
